3 Day Diet

The 3 Day Diet is a type of weight loss diet that dates back to 1985. The diet claims to help you lose 10 pounds in three days, although no evidence is available to substantiate these claims. The 3 Day Diet must be followed exactly for 3 days, followed by 4 to 5 days of normal eating before repeating the 3 day process again. This diet is often mistakenly called the Cleveland Clinic Diet.

Exercise is not recommended on this diet. That is why it is very important to strictly follow the plan in order to achieve maximum results. Without exercise, the body needs to take in very few calories to effectively lose weight. The majority of the weight loss achieved from this type of diet is from water weight. Water is the first thing your body sheds when limited on it's caloric intake.

The Science Behind It

The 3 Day Diet claims that eating the peticular foods in the diet will actually cause a unique metabolic reaction. This metabolic reaction is the supposed reasoning behind the ability to lose 10 pounds in 3 days. Once again, there is no evidence to support this claim. The diet does provide a balance of fats, carbs, and proteins. This is exactly what the body needs to get all the nutrition it needs.

The 3 Day Diet is most effective when repeated often. If the diet is done to lose a quick 10 pounds, then most people will be disappointed when they gain the weight back very quickly. When repeating the diet, after 4 to 5 days of normal eating, this will help maintain the desired body weight after weight loss.

The 3 Day Diet is simply a low calorie diet (as can be seen by the meal plan). There is nothing magical - no mystical chemical reaction that goes on (as some seem to think). Weight loss is due to a sudden drop in calories - some of this may be fat - but most will be from water loss.

3 Day Diet Meal Plan

This diet needs to be followed precisely. It is not recommended to continue this diet for more than 3 days, although even up to 10 days on a low calorie diet, will not do much harm. Many diet plans can be altered slightly, but in order to achieve maximum effectiveness, stick to the diet the way it is laid out.

- Drink a minimum of 4 glasses of water per day. The diet allows for diet beverages, but when trying to eat healthy, diet beverages should be avoided because of the high fructose corn syrup they contain.

The following condiments and spices can be used as much as you would like: salt, pepper, vinegar, lemon, herbs, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, mustard and ketchup.
